A Litre of Solar Lighting

A Litre of Solar Lighting

a mission to light a million homes

Need some light to brighten up that dark room? Why not try a light bulb that requires no batteries or electricity, costs peanuts to install and swirls for years without needing to be replaced?! A Litre of Light (Isang Litrong Liwanag), an initiative of MyShelter Foundation in the Philippines, has helped transform many homes by using discarded plastic bottles and adding a bit of bleach/chlorine to water.

The MyShelter Foundation states that they ‘envision sharing to unprivileged communities an economically — and ecologically — sustainable source of light that will provide an immediate solution to our fellowmen’s problems.’ Isang Litrong Liwanag is on a mission to light a million homes by 2012. The solar lights naturally only work during daylight, but they are changing the lives of many Filipino families by reducing electricity costs and bringing light.
