Hackney Shorts Film Festival 2018

Open for Global Submissions.

Hackney Shorts Film Festival is back and they are throwing open its virtual doors to welcome in submissions for its 2018 film festival! Hackney Shorts is on a mission is to showcase and reward the work of established and emerging filmmakers working across drama, documentary and animation.

They are looking for filmmakers who train their lenses on local stories played out against a background of rapid change that communities like Hackney are experiencing.

The festival welcome films from across the world because we are all connected and our communities are all struggling, thriving and surviving through global change that affects us all.

Last year’s festival was a triumph. The team laughed, cried and cowered as talented filmmakers opened their eyes to the hidden lives going on around us. And now they want more of it!

Thanks to its sponsors, this year HS are offering a £1000 prize for the best film in each category and the chance to be mentored by Drive TV!

Submit your film by 30 April 2018 and if you make the shortlist (and even if you don’t!) join HS for its festival screening on 1 June 2018.

In the meantime enjoy this short round-up of last year’s finalists: Hackney Shorts 2017.

“If ever there was a beating heart of London, it is Hackney. Hackney Shorts filmmakers tap into the flow – are guided and informed by the great river of humanity that courses through our shabby, rich, ugly, beautiful borough.”
– Tony Grisoni, screenwriter
