Power and Energy In Nigeria

The President Yaradua's 7 Point Agenda for the Nigerian Nation is expected to be a document that would guide the developmental framework of our wonderful nation. However, if this proposition must be met, the Yaradua administration must be ready to fight corruption squarely, this is because corruption has eaten too deep into the moral fabrique of Nigerians and this is what is thwarting developmental activities especially in the power and energy sector.
It has been reported in some quarters that the past administration wasted over 10 billion dollars in other to revamp the energy sector, yet, little or nothing is seen in the sector and those who manned the sector during the past administration are still driving on our roads scott free. My position is that if Nigeria would progress progressively, corruption that is seen in all spheres of the government especially in the energy sector must first be curbed. President Olusegun Obasanjo once opined that, there is a serious cartel that is working tirelessly to frustrate the power sector in Nigeria, if this opinion or findings are true, then there is a need for Yaradua's administration to locate the cartel and make sure that members of such clandestine and devilish cartel are brought to book, before the number one point on the agenda would be effectively addressed.
Furthermore, if the energy and power sector must be effective in Nigeria, we must look away from the unadventurous way of power generation to the adventurous, by recycling the gas flared during petroleum refining by the seven sisters in the Niger Delta.
Power and Energy sector is the key to the success of five out of the seven points of President Yaradua's agenda for the nation, because without proper power sector there would be no effective preservation of food and agricultural produce. Therefore, the agricultural sector would suffer a great loss. Thesame is applicable to Wealth Creation, Education and Transport Sector wealth cannot be sustained in a dark age, people need to access information via the internet and other ICT media, in other to expand their horizon and explore the opportunities that are available.
In Conclusion, If the future must be secured for young Nigerians, the power and energy sector must be taken seriously for a better Nigeria.
Thank you
