This week i-genius talks to its very own founder, Tommy Hutchinson about the new i-genius Academy.

i-genius: Why has i-genius launched a new i-genius Academy for social entrepreneurs?

Tommy Hutchinson: Many members tell us that they really want to improve their skills and know-how. I-genius Academy is designed to support people, whether they are just starting out or who already have businesses.

i-genius: What does the new i-genius Academy do?

Tommy Hutchinson: We are kicking off with eight one day courses which will run each month in London. After the first few months, we will take stock and consider introducing additional courses or even replacing any which don’t prove to be so popular. We are also looking at arranging longer courses, perhaps over a few days on different themes or in other locations.

i-genius: Who are the courses aimed at?

Tommy Hutchinson:
Anyone in the World who wants to develop their skills and talents. We are targeting people who are at the early stages of their career, perhaps just out of college But the courses also suit people who have already had a successful career and for whatever reason, want to try something different. I think the courses will also prove attractive to students who want to add an extra dimension to their studies.

i-genius: There are loads of entrepreneur training courses out there, what’s so special about i-genius Academy?

Tommy Hutchinson:
The courses are catered to ensuring that the participants have real outcomes which they can immediately apply. Our coaches are all experienced social entrepreneurs who are running their own businesses. They understand the real everyday needs and pressures social entrepreneurs experience in a way other professional trainers cannot.

i-genius: What do you think is the one most important thing a person needs in become a social entrepreneur?

Tommy Hutchinson:
Good question. Erm....I’d say self belief. The rest you can learn.

i-genius: Why are the courses located in London? Why not Tokyo??

Tommy Hutchinson:
Ha Ha. Well, we are only starting in London for various practical reasons and it’s also one of the more accessible cities in the World. We are exploring one opportunity in Asia at the moment and very interested in considering other places.

i-genius: Cool stuff! Okay, what else is i-genius planning?

Tommy Hutchinson:
Next up, we want to improve our main i-genius website and replace it with a platform that is much more interactive and useful to members. We're going to have at least one big event next year and have more plans in the areas of learning, news and investment. So watch this space.

i-genius: Can I have a pay rise?

Tommy Hutchinson:
No. Next question.

i-genius: That was all I wanted to know.

Nice try Barry, but you will not trick Tommy for a pay raise that easy. Best of luck with the new Academy.
