Hoping to bring together social entrepreneurs in Japan together with SEs in the UK through a new British Council programme called Skills for Social Entrepreneurs. This project will be starting soon, and we hope to hold an event early next year to launch the project together with local partners. In addition, we support social enterprise in Japan through our programmes for young leaders (see my posts on Global Changemakers) and in Climate Change and the Arts. This support may include training and networking, support for your own projects through providing seed money and mentoring, the chance to travel to meet peers overseas, and so on. The British Council is a global organisation, and may well be supporting social enterprise in your country - check out our web pages!

New Social Enterprise Online Debate Launched - Join in and Have Your Say!!!

The British Council's bilingual (English and Japanese) social enterprise website is now fully launched and ready for you to visit and view our videos of the Great Debate on Social Enterpise!!
You can:
See the themed videos of the debate between Gerard Lemos, acting Chair of the British Council and 3 Japanese leaders in the field of Social Enterprise on the topic of who should fund social development in Japan (English with Japanese subtitles). You can comment on the videos on Youtube, or tweet us your thoughts and ideas and the home page.
Follow the link to our Youtube page, and view videos from social entrepreneurship leaders Hiroshi Tasaka and Kumi Fujisawa of the SophiaBank Think Tank (Japanese only). You can see these very relevant and perceptive videos and tell us what you think.

We are going to stream LIVE our Tokyo social enterprise symposium on 30 March so that everyone can view (in English or Japanese) the plenary presentations from Stephen Bubb of ACEVO, Simon Tucker of the Young Foundation and Allison Ogden-Newton of Social Enterprise London. This will be followed by a round table discussion involving UK and Japanese experts in a discussion on social enterprise in Japan and the UK. We hope (to be confirmed) we can set up a live Twitter feed so that you can send in questions to the panel LIVE!! Please keep checking the website for the latest information.
We hope to work with you all to use social media to reach out to thousands of people around Japan and the world and involve them in discussions and get them thinking about social enterprise in The Great Debate!
