Genesis

In an earlier post, entitled Death Camps for Children, I'd described the article which caused something of a stir in Ukraine.

It described the conditions discovered in psychological internets, homes for disabled children on a tour by an American NGO.

Here was our ethical dilemma, we'd gone there to create a development plan, with the aim of delivering all children to family type homes. Then this discovery, which meant that the scale of intervention would need to be much greater unless we were to disregard the story.

Yet these were the most vulnerable and we needed to speak out, some would most certainly die from neglect and yet a conspiracy of silence surrounded these homes and the opportunity for exploitation they presented,

Allowing us to publish their story, the American NGO agreed on condition that names and places should not be identifiable.

A furious and anonymous backlash was unleashed against us, claiming all kinds of fraudulent activity, the identity was know but defended by legal threats against us revealing the name.

I replicated the story on the BBC Action Network, they removed it, saying it was inappropriate yet I did get the attention of someone at ITN who has kept in touch since.

It took two years for someone t o stand up and verify our story, that there was indeed much neglect and death was the result in many instances.

Not possible to keep silent
