Urban Regeneration

I am liking the sounds of conversation coming out of a number of developers and social housing projects. Many companies, whether we believe them or not, are focusing on social regeneration through developing people as well as property.
I have been spouting on about this for a while now and it is good to see that more people are buying into this. There is no point knocking down flats and building apartments if the mentality of the occupants doesn't change!!!!

Yes, this is extremely important. Infact I was talking to an architect friend of mine the other day about this because there is a huge social element to architecture and it is a part of theory that is learned as part of many architectural degrees. Obviously in fact the two cannot really be separated. If people are going to live somewhere it immediately becomes a part of society and has an impact on people because it is part of their environment. That's why so many council estates are being pulled down - because they are not conducive to a positive environment and are shown to actually negatively affect the residents' behaviour. In Holland they are big on this and take it very seriously. All urban, particularly inner city areas really need to do the same in my opinion.
