A Pause for Peace

posted on Sunday, November 04, 2007 10:45 PM

I am a Christian. This is the faith (not religion) to which my values align best. This is just the introduction and not a post for conversion, so please all...take a deep breath.

When I get into my work I go for it big time. Seriously. Always reading, researching, planning and thinking of the next big thing that I can do. Forever coaching and advising friends and colleagues on the best way they can inhabit the things they are passionate about.

Each week however I have a sabbath rest. This usually falls from sunset on a friday to sunset on a saturday, yes very much like the jewish faith. in that time I sometimes scroll the web, but mostly it is family time. we spend time together to spiritually, emotionally and physically recharge and reflect on our week. Sometimes I will speak on the day (usually for church or education) but mostly it is a time when my wife and kids know they have me.

Often I see many people get really stressed out because they don't have a pause for peace. A time to unwind. A time to actually enjoy the journey they are on. Always rushing to the next deal, looking at their watch when they could be spending quality time and yes sometimes I am guilty of this too.

How often do you stop to smell the flowers in your garden? Or to notice the laughter and carefree nature of children? Or to just actually be grateful for the live you have?

Food for thought.

after reading this, I realized what a wonderful life I have... that I am able to pause to admire and pick up a flower (despite the thought that I am running late), that I have a job wherein I am surrounded by the laughter of children... lovely blog!
