Get Yourself Connected

Today I had a great session with some students at the University of Westminster. My speech "Get Yourself Connected" was focused on getting people to realise the power of networking.
Often many people misunderstand what the purpose of networking is. Maybe because the word has been misunderstood as schmoozing or giving sales pitches for business. Simply put, networking is about developing mutual contacts for business or social. It can vary from finding out suppliers for your local PTA event or making venture capitalists aware of your products and services to providing a referral for someone looking for a job.
Networking is as old as the hills. Apparently cavemen did it. Am not sure who was around that time to verify it, but the art of socialising for mutual benefit is a natural phenomena for most humans.
Some of us who are more gregarious and outgoing than others absolutely love networking. Regularly seen at industry events and "networking do's" introducing people together, making new contacts and just looking for opportunities to share the delights of networking.
I for one am looking forward to the networking opportunities when many of the social entrepreneurs on this social network get together to meet in Thailand. It should be a great experience where we can share knowledge, contacts, best practice and most importantly each others company.
