Innovation and the Psychology of Work

posted on Friday, December 22, 2006 12:58 PM

Who we are is how we work. Yet, in most organisations the implicit or explicit expectation is that who we are should be reformed by the values of the organisation, and the wider cultural values expected of us in order to suceed in the modern work place. This compression or distortion of who we are, combined with the dominant underlying control philosophy of business, often stifles the very qualities that are most needed to compete - namely innovative, enthusiastic and energetic people. By bringing more of who we are into the work place we stand a better chance of being more succesful in what we do and more satisfied by how we do it.
