People are social beings. Commercial entities exploit technology to grow profits and, as a side-effect, often exploit people. However, people can use communications technology to build a tighter network and do what's right for people, which we all must agree is quite an important mission. :) I want to help build the enabling technologies. My project, Socialight, is a location-based media platform that lets anyone create and discover rich media content placed in any real-world location. It ties user-created content and social networking to the real world and allows any person or publisher to place interactive, virtual sticky notes. It works today on the web and almost any mobile phone anywhere on earth. It's designed to empower people to communicate about the places about which they care. Through sharing stories about place, people have a deep way to connect and strengthen local and global community.
