As anybody who’s ever had to sort a household’s worth of trash can gladly attest, Japan takes recycling to a whole new level of complication. If you’ve suffered sleepless nights wondering what to do about the plastic caps on empty glass bottles or how to dispose of spray cans, help is at hand. The “Emo” Recycle Kit is a handy pouch of devices tailor-made to help budding recyclers go about their work. The “bottle cap ring remover” and “carton scissors” are pretty self-explanatory; the “spray can gas remover” lets you gently puncture used aerosols cans to release gas before chucking them in the recycle bin.
“Emo” Recycle Kit, 6,300 yen. Tools also sold individually. Available at AssistOn: 3F Nodera Bldg, 3-23-1 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku. Open Mon-Tue & Thu-Sat 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.-6 p.m., closed Wed. Nearest station: Harajuku or Meiji-jingumae.
