For Youth and Economic Development

Taken from the topic or forum posted in TIG on What role can youth play toward economic, social and political development in thier country the following are the suggestions I made and sent. http://discuss.tigweb.org/thread/20135/?start=0 The new breeds has a lot of powers to affect the world and more of their government because of their young and innovative ideas, strength and creativity that can contribute to the needs of their country. The following are suggestions that we can do to provide the youth with the opportunity to involve and be effective in changing their government: First I think we can involve them in our advocacy and programs that we have. They can join and learn more about the ideology about what we are fighting for and the issues that underlies it. Second, we can open activities and programs that young people can join and participate. I believe that we should not only teach them but also allowing them to have a feel and the experience of what they are advocating. As the saying goes "experience is the best teacher". By allowing them to see and feel the real world will enable them to discover more, learn more and achieve more by testing the ground for what will work and what is effective and what should be changed and further developed. Third, by providing them more venue for learning by providing them more opportunities to learn and discover things for themselves. This is not only providing them with hands on learning and actual experience but also a venue for growth, to enjoy and to have community like seminars, group dynamics, camps and the like. Fourth, Assessing each individual (youth) based on their strength, weaknesses, talents, skills and capabilities both their assets and liabilities. In this manner we will be able to identify where they can be effective and help them in areas they are weak. Lastly, placement is very important but before giving them task or sending them in the places of employment we have to make sure that they are ready and they have all the support that they needed in their journey working to make a good and healthy government.

Hi Taya, yet another informative blog post you have written. You raise some important points that hopefully will be pursued further. I was wondering, does the Phillipines have a Youth Parliament? I.e. http://www.ukyouthparliament.org.uk/

Hi Barry, Thank you for reading my post. I do believe that that was already pursued and I am just hoping that it will be pushed more and redefine it better according to need and context. Yes, we do have a Youth Parliament and very active. http://www.youth.net.ph/about/ra80044.php
