Ten Commandments of CSR

Let us leave the developed world out of this. We may include them for advocacy sake. This concerns Corporate Africa and Civil Society Organisations. The golden question is what is your Corporate Social Responsibility Portfolio? To set a minimum standard Educare Trust proposes these Ten Commandments of CSR: 1. You/I will work to ensure that the wider definition of Corporate Good Governance in Africa encompassing Business Ethics has a focus on CSR Projects directly supporting CSOs. CSR is not for self serving support to local social needs. 2. You/I will work to ensure that in Africa, Business Ethics/CSR are recognised as a responsibility and not a casual act of optional cheap charity for maximum advertorial benefit with minimum citizen CSR gain. 3. You/I will work to make the Institute of Directors, The Stock Exchange and all other related bodies in Africa put Business Ethics/CSR on the Agenda at every management meeting and recommended a minmum percentage of profits, say 1%, in cash or kind, to be allocated to CSR projects and activities. 4. You/I will work to ensure that Companies and Corporations in Africa ask the WIIFU Question 'What's In It For Us'. They will hear as a response that profit without CSR is destructive, uncivilized and leaves us all empty citizens on the poor moral and economic periphery of the entire human race. 5. You/I will work to put positive PIGGYBACK social messages on every single commercial advert at no extral cost like cigarettes carry health warnings. 6. You/I will work to ensure that CSR Portfolio in Africa is submitted when tendering for contracts. Contracts should be awarded to the company with the best CSR Portfolio. 7. You/I will work to make CSR a compulsory, important item on the Agenda of every Company AGM in Africa and encourage AGMs to discuss CSR activities and how to AGM - Always Give More. 8. You/I will work to ensure that AGMs change the heading 'DONATION' in their AGM Report to 'CSR PROJECTS' and encourage companies to contribute to non-partisan civic education projects and not hide under the 'NO DONATIONS TO POLITICAL PARTIES' clause in the Companies and Allied Matters Act/Decree to refuse to support wide spread education in Democracy, Dialogue, Deliberation, Peace and Good Governance issues from which all companies benefit economically. 9. You/I will work to ensure that Corporations should be the Local Donor Agency matching and outstripping the International Donor Agencies in contributions to CSR Projects. 10. You/I will work to ensure that every employee and employer has a part to play in a weekly, monthly and annual CSR Project as a voluntary contribution to the corporate image and ethos. WHAT IS YOUR CSR PROJECTS?
