A Down Under Pledge

the greenies didn't like this one

G'Day mate! Today Australia pledged to cut its greenhouse gas emissions at a rate of 5%-15% by 2020. While the Government thinks this is a good pledge, environmental campaigners naturally condemned the deal claiming Mr. Rudd had been drinking a bit too much of the old amber fluid. "The weak targets announced today will damage Australia's international reputation and hold back progress toward an effective international agreement [in Copenhagen]," Australian Conservation Foundation executive director Don Henry said.

"Australia is today the biggest carbon polluter in the developed world on a per capita basis," Kevin Rudd (Australian Prime Minister) said. "Yet we are the developed country with the most to lose from climate change." He added: "Without action on climate change, Australia faces a future of parched farms, bleached reefs and empty reservoirs." His supporters kindly ask us to not 'knock' the plan just yet.

Whatever pledges are being made or not being made, one thing is for certain, and that is some pledge for change is better than none at all. So come on people, why not give it a burl.
