getting website owners to support renewable energy
Canadian based organisation, Greenscroll, claims that it's a non-profit that will take your pledges and specifically put the money into green energy projects. Put simply, you can offset the environmental costs of running your website.
From their site:
On your behalf, Greenscroll invests into green renewable energy projects, thus increasing the supply of green energy and therefore decreasing demand for polluting non-renewable sources. In other words, we pump green energy into the grid to power your website. As a result, your web presence becomes environmentally friendly, while your footprint is virtually reduced to zero — and visitors will recognize that fact by the Greenscroll certificate on your site.
Only time will tell whether this pledge will encourage website creators' to offset their footprints or not, but in the mind of the i-genius team, it's a cool idea worth exploring.
