At Reformation, fashion and sustainability coexist. Created in 2009 by Yael Aflalo, Reformation design and manufacture limited-edition collections in their own factory. Located in downtown Los Angeles, they manufacture most of its products in their own sustainable sewing factory. By cutting out the middleman and selling online and in our their boutiques, they eliminate traditional retail markups.
They source sustainable fabrics and vintage garments, and incorporate sustainable practices throughout its supply chain to make beautiful styles at a fraction of the environmental impact generated by most fashion brands. From its heat-reflecting roof and use of renewable energy, to the recycled hangers in its stores and 100% recycled packaging for every order shipped, sustainability is core to Reformation’s business at every level. It is Reformation’s goal to raise awareness around the impact fashion has on the environment and at the same time offer sustainable solutions and choices. It is their mission to lead and inspire a sustainable way to be fashionable.
Its factory uses the most efficient, eco-friendly and pro-social technologies and practices available by investing in green building infrastructure to minimize its waste, water, and energy footprints. For example, stores and HQ in LA source electricity from 100% renewable power suppliers and use LED lighting and Energy Star-rated appliances in its offices, and even installed a cool roof that reflects heat and light away, offsetting about 200 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions a year. Reformation have revitalized the alley behind its HQ to create a beautiful, relaxing space for its team to enjoy the outdoors, take a breather, plant some veggies, and gather for meetings and parties. They are also demonstrating the use of graywater with a laundry-to-irrigation system where the used water from the washer irrigates the garden.
