“Hope over fear” – social entrepreneurs welcome Obama

a galvanising message to the world

Amongst the two billion people who watched Barack Obama being sworn in as the 44th United States president, some of the most thrilled were social entrepreneurs in America and around the world. It is social entrepreneurs working to improve communities and demonstrating real innovation in alternative energy and combating climate change that the new president is looking to in order to help solve many of the world’s most pressing problems.

Barack Obama said in his inauguration speech that “we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America” This galvanising message will have been heard beyond the borders of the United States. The president said, “the world has changed, and we must change with it”

John F Kennedy said in his famous inauguration speech “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” This rings true in todays world too. Franklin D Roosevelt said “we have nothing to fear but fear itself”. On 20th January 2009, Barack Obama said we have “chosen hope over fear” Yes we can!
