national vegetarian week 2010
National Vegetarian Week (NVW) is the annual awareness-raising campaign promoting inspirational vegetarian food and the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle. Celebrated by the Vegetarian Society since 1992, the Week is now an established event that gets bigger and better every year.
A huge range of organisations from small businesses to big corporations, schools, community groups and individuals all across the UK get involved and everyone is invited to join in and make the Week a success. It all sounds great so far does it not!? There has never been an easier time to swap your meat dishes for something more healthier, but not necessarily less colourful. But what about pets?
There’s reasonable motivation to reduce your pets’ meat intake – the wider environmental impact. Last year saw a flurry of headlines following a book which claimed that owning a dog could have twice the environmental impact of driving an SUV. But pets are not the problem – a meat diet is.Today, greenhouse gases from livestock outweigh those from the entire global transport system. Food for thought indeed!
