In a short interview with i-genius, Gina Lyons explains what has inspired her to produce her new film ‘Breathe’, how she came to be involved in the film industry, and the challenges she has to face – and overcome – in such a competitive industry. She goes on to reveal her hopes for the future, and what being a member of i-genius means to her…

Editor: How did you first come to be involved in film?
Gina: I came into film by acting firstly in Independent productions and short films. I wanted to know more about how it was all put together more, which obviously led to working behind the camera.

Editor: You must be excited about your upcoming film ‘Breathe’. Could you tell us more about it, and explain what has inspired you to do this film?
Gina: I absolutely love the director Nicholas Winter, I think he is so talented and feel he could take what is essentially a low budget film and make it look a million dollars – cliché I know. When you meet someone you find so talented, you need to grab them when you can, because one day they will be big shots. I also think there is a huge market for British Cult/ Teen films. It what were good at making, the British – Cult. We should stick with it and stop trying to go all Hollywood! Ha Ha!

Editor: What have been the major challenges involved in co-producing this film?
Gina: The major challenge I am facing, like all producers in Britain – is finance. The cast, locations and other necessities – I am a natural born blagger so will not struggle with those things! We’re passionate as well so will get a good cast – but its not convincing investors to part with their money – its finding them!

Editor: What drives you and what has inspired you in your career so far?
Gina: When I was 12 or 13 I saw my Mum and Dad be very miserable every night from work. I promised myself I would never be like that. I love TV and I love Film. I love people and these are our biggest mediums and our biggest outlets – it’s also a great way to watch people, whether it be a reality TV show, a documentary or a film. I want to be amazing at both jobs one day – I’m still on a major learning curve and am like a sponge at work trying to learn everything at once!

Editor: What are your hopes for the future, both for your work, and for yourself?
Gina: I’m fearless – It’s probably a form of stupidity or naivety – but I am. My hopes are to amaze people with my films – wow people with the TV shows I work alongside – Have people to enjoy working for me, or me working for or with them. To make every experience enjoyable.

Editor: What does being a member of the i-genius community mean to you?
Gina: Its great – it’s bundled loads of inspirational, talented, successful or soon to be passionate people on one site – and it gets the brain ticking – everyone is so kind, sweet and wishes the best for everyone, and I think that’s the difference between this site and a regular networking site – it really is a pot of gold in a web full of meanies!!
