Freedom Bakery – The Artisan Bakery with a Conscience

Helping ex-offenders from reoffending.

Freedom Bakery is a Scottish artisan bakery putting a creative twist on baking and a social conscience into its business. They are a social enterprise that believes that people at risk of committing crime can benefit significantly from professional training and employment opportunities.

The bakery was established in 2015 at HMP Low Moss. The company ran a small bakery within the prison walls, training inmates and wholesaling to cafes and restaurants in Glasgow. In 2016 Freedom made the decision to expand. Almost a year later after a successful Crowdfunder road and major investment from Resilient Scotland, we opened a new, purpose-built bakery in Glasgow.

Freedom Bakery continue to work with prisoners from Greenock, Barlinnie and Low Moss prisons who come out to the bakery on a training programme on day release. The bakery is actively seeking to offer employment to its apprentices after release, and work with a number of partners to assist others into employment.
