Getting a place on a competitive programme is hard. Funding shouldn’t be!
StudentFunder was founded by people who struggled to fund their education wishing to help others finance theirs. They are passionate about what they do and go out of their way to help people achieve their goals.
How it works
StudentFunder offer loans and crowdfunding for professional and postgraduate courses provided by UK institutions. To apply, you must hold an offer letter or be already enrolled. Funds are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure you apply as early as possible.
Application process
1. Submit your online application – You will hear from them within 2 working days. If your application is successful, you will be invited for a Skype interview.
2. Skype interview – They will want to understand your circumstances and whether they may be able to help you. The interview will last 30 minutes. You will hear within 5 working days whether you have qualified for a loan.
3. Payment – The loan is paid directly to your institution. Payment can be scheduled for between 7 days and 90 days from the date you return your signed loan agreement.

Looking back
Previously, we video interviewed i-genius member and StudentFunder Founder, Juan Guerra on what exactly StudentFunder was all about how it would be a benefit to others.
So since then, how have things progressed since for Juan Guerra and StudentFunder? We caught up with Juan at the latest i-genius Cafe London later in the same year of 2014:
i-genius: What difficulties so far have you experienced setting up StudentFunder?
Juan: Getting over the “credibility hurdle”, working with slow institutions.
i-genius: What are the most crucial things you have done to grow?
Juan: Building a team and finding the right investors.
i-genius: What has been the biggest sacrifice you have made?
Juan: It’s very hard to let people go. I’ve also flagellated myself unnecessarily. I think social entrepreneurs tend to do that a bit too much. My loved ones have been very understanding of my crazy workweek.
i-genius: Why is StudentFunder needed?
Juan: Because without it, people from less wealthy backgrounds may not have access to postgraduate and professional education, which is obviously a problem for them but also for the economy and society as a whole.
i-genius: What’s the worst business advice you’ve ever received?
Juan: Don’t do student loans, it’s hard work.
