TSEO Study Tour on Social Impact Investment to the UK
The Cabinet Office, the Social Stock Exchange, RBS and Divine Chocolate were just some of the 30 UK organisations engaged in social entrepreneurship and investment the 14 member delegation met with during their five day social investment tour in London. The group convened by TSEO was able to learn from the UK’s experience of establishing and increasing access to social finance to support the creation of a more inclusive economy and address social and environmental issues at the same time.
The i-genius led UK visit with the British Council was an opportunity for senior figures in the Thai government, academia and business communities to meet government ministers, senior civil servants and UK companies to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with creating a strong climate for social investment and responsible business.
Specific Objectives of Tour
+ To learn and study the social investment initiatives and the related enabling policies especially on the role of government and private sector to help promote the issue.
+ To explore the possibilities of Thailand on participating in the Global Social Impact Investment Network and possible role in promoting the issue in ASEAN.
+ To build a stronger partnership of Thailand and UK and more concrete collaboration on social enterprise and social investment issue.
Strategic Outcomes
+ The set up of Thai National Social Investment Taskforce and Master plan.
+ The initiation of social investment initiatives learned, adopted and adapted from UK experiences and the long-term partnership with UK partners.
The tour saw the delegates visit British Council London, The Exchange Rooftop, FINCA International, NESTA, Brigade, The Cabinet Office, Business in the Community (BiTC), The Hub Westminster, Cafedirect Coffee Shop, Duke of Cambridge, The Big Society Capital (BSC), FARM: Shop, UnLtd, The National Social Marketing Centre (NSMC) and Uscreates, Jamie’s Fifteen, Bold Creative, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), Skylight Cafe, The Social Stock Exchange, Bridges Ventures, The Waterhouse, Pearson (for i-genius Academic Workshop on Social Business Education), Divine Chocolate, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), as well as Dining in the Dark.
